Pocket knife has been an essential carry for people. Since it has become popular, more and more people carry it on a daily basis. This is because it comes handy in routine cutting work. In fact, it has become a man’s essential carry. From camping to utility work, it serves a lot of users. There are different types of pocket knives and each of these types differ as per the blade deployment mechanism. Today, I have come up with a review of different blade deployment methods. Let’s explore those deployment mechanisms: 1. Spring Assisted Blade Deployment Spring assisted deployment mechanism or assisted opening mechanism refers to a spring that serves in blade deployment. In these knives, there is always a spring. To open the folded blade, you have to pull it yourself to some extent. When the blade is partially opened, the spring comes in action and opens the blade to full position. Hence, you have to partially open the blade to some extent. There is a locking system that locks the blade in an open or folded position. 2. Automatic Blade Deployment Automatic blade deployment is present in switchblade knives. These knives feature push buttons. The push buttons can be pushed to open the blade at once. As you push the button, the blade opens automatically to the full position. There is no spring action. Rather, just a push button to serve the blade deployment. Yes, there is a safety lock. To fold the blade, you have to manually fold and lock the blade. 3. Manual Blade Deployment This blade deployment system is present in traditional pocket knives. This manual blade deployment mechanism asks the users to open the blade using their own hands. You have to manually pull the blade to its full position to open it. Similarly, you have to close the blade yourself and fold it in the locked position.
