Blank guns differ from real guns in a way that the blank cartridges do not contain real bullets. On the contrary, the top of their shell is either crumpled or covered with cotton, paper piece, plastic, cotton, or felt. Despite containing no real bullets, blank guns have a real-life convincing sound of some real gunshot which is accompanied by smoke. This feature turns blank guns into perfect prop guns which are then effectively and convincingly used as gun props on theater stages and movie scenes. The onlookers get enthralled by the sound and smoke and the acting of the actors involved. Many people wonder why blank guns can be dangerous business when real bullets are not used. The answer is simple: the blank calibers which are fired in the blank guns, actually, use the same amount of energy as real bullets fired from real guns. This is also the main reason the sound and smoke of blank guns resembles the sound and smoke that is generated by real guns. The difference between the release of energy in case of blank guns and real bullets is that the real bullet carried the energy with it while flying in the direction of the intended target. On collision, the magnitude of the energy is then transferred to that particular target. In case of blank guns and no bullets, the released energy is dissipated almost immediately along with the smoke and sound. However, the level of energy which is at the barrel tip the instance it is fired is the same as the energy level that is shot while using a real bullet. Subsequently, if the barrel of a blank gun is placed directly onto an object, the energy level at the barrel tip has no other place to go, but collide with the object. This is why blank guns can be lethal and cause death and injuries when placed at a close range. This is also the reason that live-deaths have happened on theatrical stages and behind the movie scenes. Unaware of the lethality of blank guns, actors had to pay with their lives, while ‘jokingly’ firing with the blank guns and pointing them directly at their head or ribcage. Many people might wonder whether they can make a good use of blank guns with regard to self defense. The answer is no; you cannot rely on blank guns to beat attackers and thieves. However, if you see some burglars entering your property downstairs, you may grab some blank gun and fire a couple of warning shots in an attempt to scare them off.
